Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Machine Shop Team Leader to oversee daily operations within an automotive manufacturing environment. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient production of high-precision components by leading a skilled team of machinists and technicians. Duties
- Lead and supervise the machine shop team, ensuring daily production goals are met with precision and efficiency
- Coordinate machining activities on CNC lathes, milling machines, and other equipment such as CNC programming and CAM programming tools
- Oversee setup, calibration, and operation of CNC machines including Fanuc controls, ensuring optimal performance
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to ensure parts meet specifications
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to verify part quality
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment including CNC mills, CNC lathes, electrical discharge machining (EDM), welding tools, hand tools, power tools, and tooling
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve workflow efficiency and reduce waste in the shop environment
- Train team members on safety procedures, proper use of tools, machining techniques, and quality standards
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations by maintaining a clean and organized work environment
Qualifications
- Proven experience in manufacturing or machine shop leadership within the automotive industry or similar field
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience operating CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, EDM machines, and related equipment
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code; familiarity with Fanuc controls preferred
- Skilled in reading blueprints and applying GD&T principles for precise machining
- Knowledge of CAD software like SolidWorks or general CAD/CAM systems for part design and tooling development
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines
- Familiarity with plastics injection molding processes is a plus
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting machining issues
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team while maintaining high standards of safety and quality
- Valid forklift certification is preferred for material handling tasks
