7th Grade Science Teacher
Position Summary
Learning Gate Community School is seeking an innovative, student-centered 7th Grade Science
Teacher who is passionate about inspiring curiosity through inquiry, hands-on learning, and
environmental education. The ideal candidate believes that science is best learned through
investigation, exploration, collaboration, and real-world application. This teacher will foster
scientific thinking while integrating our school's philosophy that Nature is Our Best Teacher.
The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences aligned with the Florida
BEST Standards for Science while helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving,
communication, and stewardship of the natural world.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based science instruction aligned to Florida's
Science Standards.
Implement inquiry-based, project-based, and experiential learning opportunities.
Utilize laboratory investigations, engineering design challenges, field studies, and
outdoor learning experiences.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including ESE, ESOL,
gifted, and students requiring intervention.
Incorporate technology to enhance student learning and scientific investigation.
Connect scientific concepts to environmental stewardship and sustainability whenever
appropriate.
Integrate literacy, mathematics, and cross-curricular learning into science instruction.
Student Learning
Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and respectful
scientific discourse.
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
Analyze assessment data to guide instruction and intervention.
Participate in MTSS processes and collaborate with intervention staff.
Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress.
Classroom Environment
Establish a positive, safe, and organized learning environment.
Implement school-wide behavior expectations and restorative practices.
Maintain an engaging science classroom and laboratory that promotes safety and
exploration.
Ensure proper use and care of laboratory equipment and materials.
Follow all district and school laboratory safety procedures.
Environmental Education
Support Learning Gate's mission by integrating environmental literacy into instruction.
Utilize the school's outdoor classrooms, gardens, nature trails, and campus resources to
enhance learning.
Promote conservation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
Participate in environmental education events and school-wide initiatives.
Collaboration
Collaborate with grade-level and departmental teams.
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Work collaboratively with administrators, counselors, ESE staff, and intervention
specialists.
Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and classroom
activities.
Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain certification and participate in ongoing professional learning.
Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and confidentiality.
Fulfill assigned supervisory duties.
Support school-wide initiatives, clubs, field experiences, and extracurricular
opportunities as assigned.
Contribute positively to the Learning Gate school community.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Valid Florida Teaching Certificate in Middle Grades Science (Grades 5–9) or General
Science.
Demonstrated knowledge of middle school science content and instructional best
practices.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
