Title: Estimator – Demolition Division
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for demolition, deconstruction, and site preparation projects. This role analyzes project documents, performs detailed quantity takeoffs, evaluates risks, and develops pricing strategies that align with project requirements and company objectives.
The Estimator works closely with operations, purchasing, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure bids reflect practical execution strategies, regulatory requirements, and safe demolition practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Review project plans, specifications, environmental reports, and bid documents to determine demolition scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for structural demolition, selective demolition, earthwork, hauling, and disposal.
- Develop accurate cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, trucking, and disposal fees.
- Identify potential project risks including environmental hazards, utilities, structural stability, and site access constraints.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure scope coverage and cost competitiveness.
- Evaluate salvage, recycling, and material recovery opportunities where applicable.
Project Planning & Coordination
- Assist in developing demolition sequencing and methodology in collaboration with operations and field supervision.
- Review geotechnical, environmental, and hazardous material reports to incorporate mitigation costs into estimates.
- Coordinate with purchasing and equipment departments regarding equipment availability and production rates
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client meetings as required.
Collaboration & Project Turnover
- Support estimating leadership and collaborate with team estimators when multiple estimators are assigned to a project.
- Assist with project handoff to operations after successful bid award.

Communicate critical scope assumptions, risks, and cost drivers during project turnover meetings.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of demolition operations, equipment, and production methods.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to demolition including hazardous material handling and disposal.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, demolition plans, and engineering documents.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in demolition, heavy civil, or sitework construction.
- Field experience in demolition is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with HCSS heavy bid software preferred.
- Experience with top 100 GC’s preferred.
- Experience with Union labor projects preferred.
