Position Summary
We are seeking a professional, knowledgeable, and customer-focused Cannabis Dispensary Sales Associate / Budtender to join our retail team in Minnesota.
The Dispensary Sales Associate is responsible for providing an exceptional customer experience while assisting customers with cannabis products, completing sales transactions, maintaining accurate inventory, and following all company policies and Minnesota cannabis regulations.
The ideal candidate is dependable, approachable, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a regulated environment, and passionate about educating customers about cannabis in a responsible and compliant manner.
Essential Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and provide friendly, professional service.
- Verify customer identification and eligibility before entering the retail area and completing regulated sales.
- Assist customers in selecting products based on their stated preferences, needs, and experience level.
- Educate customers about available cannabis flower, pre-rolls, concentrates, edibles, beverages, topical products, and other authorized products.
- Explain product information such as potency, cannabinoid content, serving sizes, ingredients, and applicable warnings without making unsupported medical claims.
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently.
- Process cash and electronic transactions according to company procedures.
- Maintain accurate sales and transaction records.
- Follow all age-verification and customer eligibility requirements.
- Ensure products are sold only to customers legally permitted to purchase them.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, organizing, and rotating inventory.
- Verify product quantities, labels, packaging, and inventory information.
- Assist with inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Follow the company's inventory tracking and compliance procedures, including use of the state's required tracking system where applicable.
- Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and professional retail environment.
- Follow all security procedures, including access control and loss-prevention policies.
- Monitor the sales floor and report suspicious activity, attempted diversion, theft, or policy violations to management.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding customers, inventory, security procedures, sales information, and company operations.
- Stay informed about company products, promotions, policies, and applicable Minnesota cannabis regulations.
- Participate in required training and staff meetings.
- Perform opening and closing duties as assigned.
- Assist with merchandising, displays, cleaning, and general dispensary operations.
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and company policies.
Minnesota Cannabis Compliance Responsibilities
The Dispensary Sales Associate must strictly follow Minnesota cannabis laws, Office of Cannabis Management requirements, and company Standard Operating Procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Verify customer age and eligibility before regulated sales.
- Follow all required identification and customer verification procedures.
- Never sell cannabis or regulated products to an unauthorized customer.
- Follow product packaging, labeling, inventory, and point-of-sale requirements.
- Follow company procedures for inventory tracking and reconciliation.
- Report damaged, missing, expired, recalled, or questionable products to management.
- Follow all security and diversion-prevention procedures.
- Cooperate with required inspections and compliance procedures.
- Complete required employee training.
- Immediately report suspected regulatory violations or security incidents to management.
Customer Service & Product Education
The successful candidate will be expected to provide responsible, accurate, and approachable cannabis education.
You will:
- Ask appropriate questions to understand customer preferences.
- Explain differences between product types and consumption methods.
- Help customers understand labeled THC/CBD content and serving information.
- Provide general product education without diagnosing medical conditions or making prohibited health claims.
- Encourage responsible use and appropriate product selection.
- Maintain a nonjudgmental and welcoming environment.
- Respect customer privacy and confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully complete all legally required pre-employment screening and background-check requirements.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be able to work legally in a Minnesota licensed cannabis business.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine retail duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous dispensary or cannabis-industry experience.
- Previous retail, hospitality, pharmacy, customer-service, or sales experience.
- Knowledge of cannabis products and cannabinoids.
- Experience with POS systems.
- Experience with inventory management.
- Experience working in a regulated industry.
- Cash-handling experience.
- Knowledge of Minnesota cannabis regulations.
- Previous experience with Metrc or another regulated inventory-tracking system.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, stock shelves, and move inventory.
- Ability to work in a retail environment for extended shifts.
- Ability to perform repetitive computer, POS, and cash-handling tasks.
Schedule
The position may require:
- Weekday and weekend availability.
- Morning, evening, and holiday shifts.
- Opening and closing shifts.
- Additional hours during high-volume periods or special events.
