Overview
The AfterCare Educator at New Amsterdam School is responsible for creating a warm, supportive atmosphere for our students. In this role, they will play a vital part in supporting children's development and well-being after school hours. They will lead in the caretaking and development of age appropriate curriculum consistent with Waldorf Early Childhood Education methods and practices for children ages 2 years - 6 years.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Classroom:
- Plan and facilitate all activities, including artistic work, indoor & outdoor playtime.
- Manage all aspects of the classroom including planning and preparation of materials.
- Manage snack preparation & clean up daily.
- Supervise children during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Closely observe each child’s physical, social, and emotional well-being and development through the day/week/month/year.
- Support and manage toileting for each individual child’s needs.
- Maintain daily communication with parents and guardians regarding the child's well-being.
- Collaborate with the School Director to plan and implement weekly curriculum.
- Help keep a clean and tidy classroom environment. All teachers are responsible for basic classroom cleaning and maintenance (sanitizing surfaces, washing dishes, putting away toys and furniture, decoration, organizing supplies, food storage and clean up, etc).
- Provide basic first aid when necessary and respond promptly to any emergencies or behavioral concerns
Full School:
- Actively engage in professional development throughout the year. This includes required training from the NYC DOHMH.
- Participate in planning and facilitating school festivals (Michaelmas/Jack-Lantern/Lantern Walk/Winter Sing /Winter Fair/May Fair)
- Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- File all required health forms and documentation of training required by August 31, 2026.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training (highly preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) (required)
- M.ED, MA or MS in Early Childhood Education in progress, or currently held (highly preferred)
- New York State Teacher Certification (highly preferred) *
- Birth – 2nd Grade (including birth – 2nd grade for students with disabilities)
- 1st – 6th Grade (including birth – 2nd grade for students with disabilities)
- N – 6th Grade (Including Special Education)
- PreK – 6th Grade (including Special Education)
* Pending Certifications and/ or Approvals from the State Education Department or other accreditation organization will be accepted only if awaiting certificate.*
- Previous experience working with children and parents in a group setting.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Committed to personal growth and development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of childhood development and behavioral support.
- Commitment to working to create a supportive and respectful environment.

Hours:
25-40 hours / week
Compensation:
$25 - $30 per hour
