Responsibilities
- Operate finish blades along with other heavy equipment such as dozers, graders, loaders, excavators, water trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, and tankers to achieve accurate grading and surface finishing.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Follow construction plans and specifications to complete grading, paving, utility work, and excavation tasks with precision.
- Adhere to federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures at all times to maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with team members on site to coordinate equipment use and project timelines efficiently.
- Conduct inspections of machinery before and after use to identify repairs or maintenance needs.
- Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager in a timely manner.
- Follow directions of the Forman/Superintendent as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
- Monitor performance as required to perform tasks correctly.
- Assist with all aspects of the job including basic labor responsibilities.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Other duties as may be assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Finish Blade Operator in the heavy civil construction industry.
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment on construction sites with a focus on earthmoving tasks.
- Experience setting blue tops.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance on construction machinery.
- Construction site experience with a focus on grading, excavation, utility work, and general construction activities.
- Knowledge of federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures.
- Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in commercial truck driving and hauling heavy equipment or materials.
- Skilled in construction grading, paving operations, and heavy equipment operation including horizontal drilling techniques.
- Excellent teamwork skills with a proactive approach to safety and operational efficiency.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings (drug test) and background checks.
- Ability and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and operate heavy machinery for extended periods.
- Ability to climb onto and off equipment.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments, which may involve exposure to loud noise and moving mechanical parts.
