Position Overview
The Associate Attorney handles family law matters from initial filing through Judgment or Final Order, delivering the firm’s high standard of legal work while collaborating closely with shareholders, paralegals, and staff. The role combines substantive casework, client counsel, and court advocacy, and suits a lawyer who wants to build a career in family law at a tightknit, values-driven firm.
Position Details
Reports To: Shareholders / Managing Partner
Classification: Exempt
Hours: Full-Time
Compensation: Commensurate with experience, with full benefits
Core Responsibilities
Case Management & Advocacy
- Manage a caseload of family law matters from initial filing through Judgment or Final Order.
- Develop case strategy in collaboration with shareholders and keep clients informed throughout the matter.
- Appear at hearings, conferences, and trials, and represent clients in negotiations and settlement discussions.
Legal Research & Writing
- Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, declarations, and briefs.
- Draft and review correspondence, agreements, and judgment packages.
- Ensure compliance with the CA Rules of Court, Family Code, Code of Civil Procedure, and applicable Local Rules.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Counsel clients with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
- Work closely with paralegals and legal assistants to move matters forward efficiently.
- Contribute to firm knowledge-sharing and uphold the firm’s collaborative culture.
Professional Responsibilities
- Track and enter billable hours and meet annual billing expectations.
- Maintain active California Bar membership and complete required MCLE credits.
- Participate in firm and community events, including AAML activities as appropriate.
Additional Duties
The Associate Attorney may take on additional responsibilities as the needs of the firm evolve, and is expected to bring sound judgment, initiative, and a willingness to pitch in across the team.
Pay: $145,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year
