Prevention Educator Job Description
Summary:
This position is based on delivery of Evidence based prevention education program requests made for information on alcohol, other drugs, and overall prevention issues. The Prevention Educator is responsible for planning, implementing, and presenting prevention education programs to school audiences, coordinating, and facilitating projects, such as Youth Summit, Natural Helpers, Red Ribbon event, etc., also presenting programs and presentations to individuals and groups outside the classroom setting, and completing other duties as assigned.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. This position will also be expected to attain and maintain a credentialed prevention professional (CPP) certification.
Responsibilities:
-Delivery of "Life Skill Training" curriculum for grades 6-8 in Allegany County Schools.
-Delivery of "Too Good For Drugs" curriculum for Allegany County Schools.
-Delivery of Evidence Based Parent program curriculum in the Allegany County Community.
-Develop contractual agreements with schools for curriculum presentation, deliver to schools after supervisory approval.
-Delivery of "Natural Helpers" program to Allegany County School District Schools when requested.
-Develop and coordinates workshops, conferences and training for teachers and students. This will be at the request of school-based personnel by contracting with local and regional experts as speakers in the areas of alcohol and other drugs.
-Work in conjunction with other education staff and supervisor to evaluate and improve school programs; works to maximize program effectiveness wherever possible.
-Develop social media and environmental strategies for the schools and community.
-Review and order educational literature and curriculums in conjunction with agency needs and approval.
-Complete daily log, time sheet, and mileage log with accurate information for office use and funding source statistics.
-Provide complete and accurate monthly data for OASAS electronic reporting system.
-Attend departmental staff meetings as scheduled and other meetings as designated by the Prevention Education Director.
-Responsible for working with all schools, community agencies, and coalitions, i.e., DSS, Probation Dept., WIC, HeadStart, Industries, Churches, Hospitals, Dept. of Health, Criminal Justice System, Partners for Prevention in Allegany County.
-All members of the Prevention Team will be expected to avail themselves of training opportunities in order to stay current in the field.
-Schedule (at least) monthly supervision with the Prevention Education Director.
-Other duties as requested by the Prevention Education Director
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in social or behavioral sciences, education, or health care related field. Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license required (mileage reimbursed). Background in substance abuse, CAC, CSAC, or prevention experience are assets. Applicant must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.25 - $20.00 per hour
