Uses significant independent judgment and familiarity of the field to perform work. May be responsible for
administration of various moderate and high complexity departmental programs and may be the lead a group of
employees. May develop policies and procedures and oversee the implementation and execution of them.
Position Summary
To provide appropriate counseling services to students and their families to support the student’s emotional well-
being and enhance learning readiness. This includes facilitating communication regarding students’ academic,
emotional, and social concerns, mediating conflicts between students and teachers, and strengthening parent-
teacher relationships. Additionally, the role involves assisting with college and career readiness activities, referring
students to mental health professionals when necessary, and making recommendations to academic committees
to improve learning outcomes.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Apply extensive expertise in student counseling to design, plan, implement, and evaluate a
comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for the campus.
2. Guide and support students in achieving their academic, personal, social, and emotional growth while
addressing the unique needs of diverse student populations.
3. Utilize proven student counseling methods to provide individual and group counseling, addressing
barriers to learning. Implement strategies to prevent school dropout and, when necessary, conduct
mental health assessments as outlined in SAISD administrative procedures. Develop individualized
treatment plans as appropriate and facilitate counseling sessions to promote students’ academic and
personal success.
4. Assist students in assessing their aptitudes and abilities by interpreting standardized test scores and other
relevant data. Collaborate with students and parents to develop educational and career plans based on
these evaluations.
5. Support students and families in making critical life decisions, including career selection, post-secondary
education, and career assessments. Develop, plan, and implement programs and events that help
