About Us
ICT Trash Service is a locally owned and family-operated trash company serving Wichita, Haysville, Maize, and surrounding areas. We operate a growing fleet of automated side-load, rear-load, and front-load garbage trucks.
We are looking for an experienced, dependable, and self-motivated Shop Foreman / Lead Fleet Mechanic to oversee our day-to-day shop operations while remaining actively involved in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing our equipment.

Position Summary
The Shop Foreman will take the lead in keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and on the road. This is a hands-on position—not a desk-only management role.
The right candidate will organize and prioritize repairs, oversee preventative maintenance, help direct other shop personnel, maintain repair and parts records, and personally diagnose and repair refuse trucks, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, trailers, and support equipment.
This position requires someone who can work independently, make sound repair decisions, and take ownership of the overall condition and readiness of the fleet.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily shop operations and help maintain an efficient, organized workflow
- Prioritize repairs based on safety, operational needs, and truck availability
- Assign and oversee work performed by other mechanics or shop personnel
- Remain actively involved in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing trucks and equipment
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance and inspection schedules
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on garbage trucks and support equipment
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulic systems, and other truck components
- Troubleshoot and repair PTO systems, pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and refuse-body components
- Repair suspension, steering, drivetrain, and brake components
- Review completed repairs and help ensure work is performed correctly and safely
- Identify developing problems before they result in breakdowns or extended downtime
- Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance histories, and inspection records
- Help manage parts inventory and order necessary parts and shop supplies
- Coordinate outside repairs and communicate with vendors when needed
- Help train, guide, and support other mechanics and shop personnel
- Respond to occasional emergency or after-hours repairs when necessary
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop
Qualifications PREFERRED:
- 3+ years of diesel mechanic experience
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience working on refuse trucks, heavy trucks, or hydraulic equipment
- Knowledge of air brake systems and hydraulic troubleshooting
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple repairs
- Ability to guide other mechanics and verify the quality of completed work
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license
- Previous experience as a shop foreman, lead mechanic, or senior technician is a PLUS
Bonus Qualifications, but NOT required:
- CDL Class B or A
- Experience with automated side-load garbage trucks
- Experience with Mack, Freightliner, Cummins, Autocar, Crane Carrier, or Allison equipment
- Experience with Labrie, McNeilus, or New Way equipment
- Welding and fabrication ability
- Experience maintaining DOT inspection and fleet maintenance records
