Position Overview
The Foreman is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of luxury custom homes and high-end renovation projects while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, quality, safety, organization, and professionalism. This individual is an experienced construction professional who leads by example, mentors field personnel, coordinates subcontractors, and ensures every aspect of the project reflects Tongue & Groove's commitment to excellence.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive hands-on construction knowledge, exceptional technical abilities, outstanding leadership skills, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Execution & Leadership
- Lead daily field operations from project start through completion.
- Execute work in accordance with construction documents, specifications, engineering requirements, and Tongue & Groove quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Construction, Project Manager, and Project Coordinator to execute project schedules and maintain production goals.
- Thoroughly review architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and shop drawings prior to each phase of construction.
- Accurately interpret construction documents and ensure all work is completed in accordance with the plans, specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Identify discrepancies, omissions, constructability concerns, coordination conflicts, and potential issues before work begins. Communicate these proactively to the Director of Construction, Project Manager, Architect, or Design Team to prevent delays, rework, and unnecessary costs.
- Verify field dimensions, layouts, elevations, and critical measurements before installation to ensure accuracy.
- Coordinate and supervise all field personnel and subcontractors to ensure work progresses efficiently, safely, and in the proper sequence.
- Assign daily and weekly work priorities while maintaining accountability for productivity, workmanship, and schedule adherence.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite that reflects Tongue & Groove's standards.
Craftsmanship & Quality Control
- Champion exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail throughout every phase of construction.
- Perform continuous quality inspections rather than waiting until completion to identify deficiencies.
- Verify that all work meets company standards, manufacturer specifications, architectural intent, and client expectations before proceeding to the next phase.
- Immediately identify and correct deficiencies before they become larger issues.
- Minimize punch list items through proactive quality management.
- Protect completed work from damage and ensure proper installation methods are consistently followed.
- Mentor field personnel and subcontractors in best construction practices and superior craftsmanship.
- Take personal ownership of the finished product, ensuring every detail reflects the quality expected of a luxury custom builder.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Execute and maintain the project schedule while anticipating upcoming work and critical milestones.
- Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and four-week look-ahead planning.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor sequencing.
- Verify materials are delivered accurately, inspected for quality, protected from damage, and available before installation.
- Identify schedule risks early and communicate solutions before delays occur.
- Assist in maintaining efficient workflow while minimizing downtime and unnecessary costs.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, mentor, and develop field crews while fostering accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Establish clear expectations for productivity, craftsmanship, safety, jobsite cleanliness, and conduct.
- Verify employee time records, labor allocation, and daily productivity.
- Promote a positive, solution-oriented work environment built on respect and accountability.
- Train and mentor carpenters and apprentices to continually elevate the capabilities of the field team.
- Lead by example through professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.
Client & Trade Relations
- Professionally represent Tongue & Groove with clients, architects, designers, inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Maintain respectful, timely, and professional communication at all times.
- Resolve field issues efficiently while preserving positive working relationships.
- Participate in client walkthroughs and inspections, ensuring an exceptional client experience throughout the project.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe jobsite that exceeds OSHA requirements and company safety expectations.
- Conduct and participate in regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite inspections.
- Ensure all required permits, inspections, and compliance requirements are satisfied.
- Immediately address unsafe conditions or practices.
- Promote a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.
Documentation & Technology
- Complete accurate Daily Logs with detailed progress updates and photographs.
- Maintain Buildertrend documentation, including:
- Daily Logs
- Work Orders
- Progress Photos
- Safety Documentation
- Material Deliveries
- Jobsite Issues
- Report schedule changes, quality concerns, budget risks, and field challenges promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, deliveries, labor, equipment, and project activities.
- Utilize Buildertrend and other company technology platforms consistently and accurately.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of residential construction experience, including significant experience building luxury custom homes and high-end renovations.
- 5+ years of experience in a Foreman, Superintendent, or comparable field leadership role.
- Expert ability to read, interpret, and execute architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and shop drawings. Must be able to identify inconsistencies, missing information, constructability concerns, and coordination conflicts before work begins and proactively communicate solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, framing, structural systems, building envelopes, waterproofing, mechanical systems, finish carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, and luxury finishes.
- Exceptional understanding of construction sequencing and building science, with the ability to anticipate downstream impacts of field decisions and coordinate work to minimize rework and maximize efficiency.
- Thorough understanding of local building codes, inspections, OSHA regulations, and construction best practices.
