Business Development Manager | Remote (US)
If you sell to GovCon and AEC firms and you’re ready to own new-client growth end to end, this is your seat: your pipeline, your number, and a proven playbook that’s yours to run and sharpen.
Who We Are
Summit Strategy is a win studio for growth-obsessed teams. We help our B2G + B2B clients connect their business development, capture, proposals, brand, marketing, and team training into one integrated growth engine - so they can stop reacting and start winning.
Our team is fully remote, highly experienced, and deeply embedded in the industries we serve. We’re intentionally lean and self-funded, which means less bureaucracy, clearer ownership, and real autonomy for people to do their best work.
We’re not a traditional corporate environment. We operate as a small, high-performing consulting team that values good judgment, collaboration, and follow-through. We’re building thoughtfully as we scale.
Our Core Values
We have a growth mindset | We’re better together | We’re comfortable with the uncomfortable | We get it done | We have fun
The Role: Business Development Manager
This is a true hunter role. Your mission is simple: bring Summit Strategy new clients, owning the pursuit from first conversation to signed agreement.
Right now, new-client sales sits with our CEO. She’s great at it. She also has a company to run. We’re in a growth phase, and this is the quarter we’re investing in a dedicated, seasoned leader to own this corner of the business, carry the number, and take a healthy pipeline to new heights, with real room to make the role your own.
We run on EOS, and this seat starts at the leadership level: you’ll participate in weekly L10s, partner with the other function leaders on cross-functional work, and collaborate closely with our CEO on strategy and top pursuits, reporting to our COO.
This role is about relationships as much as revenue. We want someone already embedded in the GovCon world: active in industry associations, visible on LinkedIn, and comfortable on the conference circuit. Our buyers are executives and BD leaders at government contracting companies; you need to speak their language on day one.
Our clients range from small businesses that lean on us for full growth strategy support to large enterprises that need targeted expertise or surge capacity in peak proposal seasons. You’ll know which is which, and how to sell to each.
What You’ll Do
- Own new-client revenue: the pipeline, the number, and the plan to hit it
- Identify + qualify GovCon and AEC firms that fit our ideal client profile using LinkedIn, industry tools, referrals, events, and your own network
- Run smart, personal outreach campaigns (email, phone, LinkedIn; never mass spam)
- Book + lead discovery calls and run pursuits through to close, bringing in Summit leaders selectively when their voice helps win the deal
- Listen hard and scope honestly: propose what we can actually deliver, priced for both sides to win
- Set every new client up for success: build a clear client profile and brief our CX team at handoff, so clients never have to repeat what they already told you
- Show up at conferences + association events with intent: arrive with a plan, leave with strong leads
- Continue to grow your LinkedIn presence into a recognized industry voice that keeps Summit in front of buyers
- Manage affiliate + referral partnerships that extend our reach
- Track everything in our CRM (Pipedrive): contacts, pipeline, activity, forecasts, wins + losses
- Be our ears in the market: spot trends in what prospects ask for, and bring recommendations to the leadership table on where our services should evolve
What You Bring
- 5+ years of sales or business development experience, selling services/solutions to/for government contractors
- Fluency in the federal growth world: you know a GWAC from a BOA, and you can talk capture, recompetes, and set-asides with a chief growth officer without missing a beat
- Real industry presence: active in organizations like APMP, NCMA, AFCEA, SAME, or SMPS, and a familiar face (or ready to become one) at GovCon events
- An active LinkedIn presence and the instinct to keep growing it
- A hunter’s energy: you open doors, you’re undaunted by cold outreach, and you love the thrill of closing a deal
- Executive presence with C-suite buyers, on Zoom or over coffee at a conference
- Self-led, organized, and accountable; you operate like an owner
- Ability to work remotely and travel for events (fully remote; DC-metro area is a plus for event density)
Bonus Points
- Experience selling consulting services
- Experience working in a small business culture
- Experience working in a company that runs on EOS
- An established network of GovCon + AEC decision-makers
- Familiarity with Office 365, Teams/SharePoint, Asana, Pipedrive (or similar CRM)
Where This Role Goes
This role starts at the leadership table; the manager title simply reflects a seat with no direct reports yet, not the weight of the job. From there, the route is simple: you close new clients, the company grows, and that growth unlocks promotion opportunities with title and compensation to match. The promotion metrics will be in writing as part of your offer, so the path up is defined by your results, not by waiting your turn.
Compensation
$95,000-$115,000 base salary, depending on experience
+ uncapped commission on the new-client revenue you generate
OTE: $150,000-$175,000. Your first two (pro-rated) quarters of total pay are guaranteed at a $150,000 annual pace while your pipeline ramps; yours to keep, not a draw you pay back. Full plan details are shared during the offer process.
Benefits
Benefits on Day One
- Flexible, remote work
- 14 paid holidays
- Computer equipment setup
Benefits After 90 days
- PTO: 2 weeks (pro-rated in year 1). Unlimited PTO eligible in year three
- 401(k) with up to 4% company match
- Tax-free health reimbursements (QSEHRA annual $6,450 self / $13,100 family)
- Performance bonuses
- Professional development
