Part-time coaches within Shawnee State University Athletics—including both Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches—are responsible for supporting the planning, development, and administration of their respective athletic programs. These positions play an essential role in fostering a competitive, educational, and student-centered environment.
Required trainings:
Concussion in Sports – yearly (online) (certification required)
Concussion in Sports Course
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Training – every two years (Athletic Training/Red Cross) (certification required)
Chapter 1 CPR Introduction - American CPR Care Association
Sudden Cardiac Arrest – yearly (online) (certification required)
NFHS Learn | Interscholastic Education, Made Easy

Prior coaching or playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level preferred.

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Commitment to supporting student-athlete success academically, athletically, and personally.

Ability to positively represent Shawnee State University and uphold the mission and values of the Athletics Department.
Compliance With Policies
All part-time athletic employees must comply with Shawnee State University policies and procedures as well as Shawnee State Athletics protocols.
Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
