Automotive Technology Instructor Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that meet automotive technology curriculum standards
- Provide hands-on training in automotive diagnostics, repair, and maintenance
- Evaluate student progress through assessments, projects, and examinations
- Maintain and update training materials to reflect current industry standards
- Coordinate with other instructors and school administrators to ensure a cohesive educational
experience
- Supervise and mentor students during laboratory and shop activities
- Organize field trips and guest lectures to enhance real-world learning experiences
- Ensure the automotive shop and tools are kept in safe and operational condition
- Prepare students for industry certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)
- Stay current with advancements in automotive technology through continuous professional
development
Automotive Technology Instructor Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or a related field
- Multiple ASE certifications
- Experience with modern automotive diagnostics and technology
- Previous teaching or training experience
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching methods
- Experience in curriculum development
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of professional automotive repair experience
- ASE certification in at least one area
- Proficient in using automotive diagnostic tools and software
- Strong understanding of automotive systems and components
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of educational software
