What You’ll Do:
- Deliver precise, effective sign language interpreting during classroom lessons, assemblies, school activities, and field trips
- Bridge communication between students, educators, staff, and peers, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard
- Support student participation in both general education and special education settings
- Offer insights and feedback to team members regarding any communication barriers
- Uphold strict confidentiality and model professionalism at all times
- Engage in IEP meetings, staff discussions, and training sessions when interpretation is required
- Follow all school district guidelines and protocols
- Adjust interpreting strategies to meet students’ individual learning and developmental needs
Qualifications That Set You Apart:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and interpreting
- VQAS Level III or equivalent qualification, or an EIPA Written Test with a minimum performance score of 3.5
- Previous K-12 interpreting experience preferred
- Familiarity with IEPs, special education practices, and collaborating on student support teams
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High school diploma required; postsecondary education or interpreter training highly valued
