About This Role
The primary responsibility of the Senior Pastor position is to shepherd the people of First Christian Church alongside the staff and elders. The Sr. Pastor provides strategic leadership, plans, and advocates for the faith development, and discipleship of the congregation. This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 5-10 years of experience in Church Ministry/Leadership is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities and Tasks of the Senior Pastor
- To provide a biblically based preaching and teaching ministry and encourage and shepherd the spiritual formation of the congregation as the lead teacher/communicator
- Collaborates with the elders of First Christian Church to lead the members of the church in spiritual growth and unity
- Collaborates with the staff of First Christian Church to support church ministries, committees and other groups within the church to provide directional and visionary leadership
- Plan, schedule, and oversee special events throughout the year alongside the staff
- Provide spiritual counseling for baptisms, weddings and funerals
- Respond to emails, phone calls, and other inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Attend leadership meetings with Elders & Staff
- Weekly one on one meetings with the Elder Chairman to keep open lines of communication
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Represent FCC at Salem Church United meetings

Your Team
The Senior Pastor serves under the oversight of, and is directly accountable to, the Board of Elders.
The Senior Pastor works in close partnership with the Director of Kids & Student Ministry, providing visionary alignment, mentorship, and joint strategic planning to ensure a unified discipleship pathway from birth through adulthood.
Strategic Focus & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Senior Pastor leads the execution of the church’s overall growth strategy. Performance will be evaluated annually based on both functional execution and measurable ministry health in the following areas:
1. Strategic Preaching & Teaching
Objective: Develop and execute a cohesive, long-term teaching plan that drives spiritual depth and biblical literacy.
KPIs:
- Maintain a rolling 6-month preaching and series calendar, aligned with staff for coordinated kids/student programming.
- Source, schedule, and manage guest speakers to ensure a high-quality, sustainable teaching rotation throughout the year.
2. Discipleship & Leadership Development (Growth)
Objective: Expand the church's leadership capacity by fostering small group environments that equip volunteers and leaders.
KPIs:
- Group Multiplication: Measurable increase in the number of active volunteers plugged into "Community Group-Type" environments.
- Leader Pipelines: Implementation of a consistent process to identify, train, and launch new group leaders and volunteers.
3. Pastoral Care & Organizational Health
Objective: Provide accessible pastoral care while maintaining structural health and leading through transitional seasons.
KPIs:
- Establish and communicate set Pastoral Care/Office Hours, tracking engagement to ensure the congregation's care needs are being met efficiently.
- Transition Milestones: Collaborative execution of transition goals set jointly with the Elders and staff.
4. Community Engagement
Objective: Drive outward-focused initiatives that connect First Christian Church to the surrounding neighborhood.
KPIs:
- Outreach Attendance & Follow-up: Measurable tracking of community engagement events, specifically measuring the conversion rate of first-time visitors to returning guests.
