Systems West Engineers is seeking an experienced Commissioning Provider to join our growing commissioning team. This role is based in Boise, ID.
This is a seasoned technical role for someone who enjoys understanding how complex building systems work—and proving that they work as intended. The right person is thorough, curious, process-driven, and comfortable moving between design documents, construction sites, controls systems, functional testing, issue resolution, and technical documentation.
You will work closely with Commissioning Project Managers while taking ownership of the technical execution and quality of assigned commissioning work.
What You’ll Do
- Execute the commissioning process throughout the project lifecycle, from design review through testing, issue resolution, and closeout.
- Review mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems for alignment with the Owner’s Project Requirements, design intent, energy performance, constructability, and maintainability.
- Develop commissioning specifications, checklists, test procedures, issues logs, reports, systems manuals, and other technical deliverables.
- Lead and coordinate construction observations, field investigations, functional performance testing, and systems integration testing.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment, controls, and system-performance issues and help project teams identify practical corrective actions.
- Recognize developing technical concerns, investigate underlying causes, and communicate findings clearly to project stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical activities with Commissioning Project Managers, engineers, contractors, controls providers, technicians, and facility staff.
- Maintain the accuracy, consistency, and quality of commissioning documentation and fieldwork.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developing commissioning staff.
- Improve internal commissioning tools, standards, workflows, and quality-control practices.
What You Bring
- Typically eight or more years of relevant experience in commissioning, consulting engineering, controls, construction, system startup, testing, or facility operations.
- Significant experience commissioning mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building-control systems.
- Strong HVAC and controls knowledge, with the ability to investigate system operation and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Experience with commissioning and existing building commissioning processes.
- Experience conducting design reviews, construction observations, functional testing, and integration testing.
- The ability to independently organize and execute multiple technical assignments with close attention to accuracy and deadlines.
- Clear technical writing and the ability to communicate findings to engineers, contractors, owners, and facility personnel.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- A Professional Engineer license (PE) and commissioning credentials such as CCP, BCxP, or CxA are preferred.
- Trade, controls, startup, or facility-operations experience is valued.
- Healthcare and Higher Education sector experience is preferred.
How You Work
You are a disciplined executor who takes pride in producing accurate, complete work. You follow established processes while remaining alert to opportunities to make them more effective.
You ask thoughtful questions, dig into system behavior, and keep working until the technical issue is understood. You are comfortable making informed recommendations, documenting your reasoning, and raising concerns early rather than allowing problems to sit unresolved.
You work independently but do not operate in isolation. You communicate progress, share technical knowledge, support your teammates, and understand that strong commissioning depends on collaboration across the entire project team.
Why Systems West Engineers
Systems West Engineers is a multidisciplinary team delivering thoughtful, technically rigorous solutions for complex building systems. Sustainability is central to how we think, engineer, and lead.
