Position Summary:
A Controller is responsible for overseeing an organization's accounting operations. This includes cost accounting, managing budgets, financial reporting, audits, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operational/Transaction Accounting
1.1 Prepare journal entries and month end close reports and maintain accounting records.
1.2 Enforce accounting policies and procedures.
1.3 Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
1.4 Manage cost of goods manufactured/sold and inventory, with standard costs and variances to actual and look for improvements.
1.5 Manage purchasing and sourcing for the location.
1.6 Assist location with annual budget.
1.7 Provide financial analyses for management decisions.
2. Team Leadership & Development
2.1. Lead and manage a diverse team of production workers, supervisors, and department managers.
2.2. Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, continuous improvement, and safety.
2.3. Ensure appropriate training, mentoring, and performance evaluations to maintain high employee morale and productivity.
3. Production Efficiency
3.1. Monitor and analyze production metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
3.2. Implement initiatives to increase production output while reducing waste and downtime.
3.3. Ensure that production and reporting goals are met consistently.
4. Collaboration and Communication
4.1. Communicate with other departments, including sales, production, engineering, and logistics, to ensure reporting and production schedules are met.
4.2. Ensure effective communication between all stakeholders to meet operational goals and customer expectations.
4.3 Provide regular updates on operational performance and procurement to the senior management team. Use data to inform decisions and drive improvements across the manufacturing process.
5. Physical Requirements
5.1. Must be able to sit or stand and walk for extended periods of time
5.2. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
6. Background/Experience
6.1. Must be a “US citizen” as defined by the US Government and able to work without restriction with ITAR data.
6.2. Ability to read, write and communicate English language.
6.3. Degree in accounting or business administration.
6.4. Proficient with MS Excel and experience with ERP Systems.
6.5. 5+ years of relevant experience
6.6. CPA or CMA certification preferred
7. Enabling characteristics & attributes
· COMMUNICATION: The individual must have the ability to assist others in understanding reporting requirements and KPIs to increase quality and limit manufacturing issues.
· ORGANIZATION: The individual must have an extremely strong ability to organize large amounts of detail and numerous, varied work responsibilities to meet work schedules as well as meet longer term project deliverables. The individual must have the ability and the predilection to perform well in both a routine, detailed mode and an abstract, collaborative mode on projects with others.
· TEAMWORK: The individual must possess the ability to collaborate professionally and effectively with all levels within the organization.
