Job Overview:
Hayward Bait & Bottle Shoppe is currently seeking an enthusiastic assistant store manager that will help with the day-to-day operations throughout the store and help to further the growth of the business in all of our retail and customer service aspects. The right candidate will work closely with both the Retail Operations Manager and Owner/CEO to ensure policies and procedures are followed to the letter while maintaining a neat and organized shop with grade A customer service. The ideal candidate should have a passion for the outdoors with a proven track record of being able to lead a team by example.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service - we excel because we offer something most places don't, the plethora of product and the knowledge on how to use it. Taking care of customers is our number one goal and it's what keeps them coming back. Be the influencer or source of knowledge that attracts customers of all types that love the outdoors as much as you.
- Shop vision - work with the Retail Operations Manager to create the number one fishing destination in the north woods. We are unique in the fact that the shop brass, not a corporate party, set the direction for product, pricing and specials that enter the shop. Be a voice that helps to get the right product to the shelf in a beautifully merchandised way that customers will tell their friends about.
- Work as a team - one employee does not run the shop; we are only as strong as the team we surround ourselves with. Work with the Retail Operations Manager to help train and groom staff on procedures, policies, customer service tactics and general fishing/outdoors knowledge.
- Become a spokesman/woman - our footprint on the social media front continues to grow as does the need for new voices and ideas. Work with the Retail Operations Manager and Owner/CEO to capture important and useful information from guides, resort owners, key pillars in the community and from yourself that will ensure all of those who are pointing north for their next fishing adventure, is kept well in the loop regarding the area and the fishing.
- Have fun - we are in a distinguished line of work where customers should be coming into the building happy and leaving in the same manner. Provide a fun experience for yourself and customers alike by getting down to the nitty gritty of what makes fish bite, sharing big fish stories and making friends and connections in the fishing world that will help you grow as a fisherman/fisherwoman/Hayward Bait associate.
What the ideal candidate will have:
- Robust knowledge of the fishing, firearms, archery or outdoor industry as a whole
- Willingness to take direction and learn from other members of the staff and management/owner team
- Ability to function as the Retail Operations Manager while the ROM is away from the business
- High availability to meet the needs of the business - the position is full time, 5 (8-hour) days a week with shop, but depending on the schedule, the management team may need to put in 6 days or extended hours during our busy times of the year (spring & summer) to accommodate customers.
- Technologically sound with computers, cameras, phones, etc

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
