Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) that can provide high-quality, compassionate, and efficient care to patients experiencing a wide range of emergent medical, surgical, and trauma conditions. The ER RN is responsible for the rapid assessment, stabilization, and ongoing management of patients of all ages with varying acuity levels. This role requires strong critical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The ER RN collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to deliver timely and evidence-based care, while ensuring patient safety and emotional support throughout the emergency care process.
Duties
- Perform rapid triage and initial assessment to determine patient acuity and prioritize care.
- Provide emergency nursing interventions to stabilize patients with trauma, cardiac, respiratory, or other life-threatening conditions.
- Administer medications, start IVs, and perform procedures per provider orders and established protocols.
- Monitor and document patient status, vital signs, and responses to treatment in the electronic health record.
- Assist providers with procedures such as intubations, wound care, and cardiac monitoring.
- Participate in trauma activations and assist with coordination of patient transfers to higher-level trauma centers when necessary.
- Educate patients and families regarding discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care.
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and supplies, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
- Collaborate with EMS personnel, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless and effective patient care.
- Float between both the ER and Medical-Surgical unit.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Active RN license in Iowa or Compact State
- At least 1+ years of Emergency Room experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS & TNCC certifications
- Must be comfortable working between the ER and Medsurg Units
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced assessment and triage skills – ability to quickly identify life-threatening conditions and prioritize patient care.
- Proficiency in emergency interventions such as IV insertion, airway management, cardiac monitoring, wound care, and medication administration.
- Competence in trauma care fundamentals, including stabilization, hemorrhage control, and preparation for transfer to higher-level trauma facilities.
- Experience managing a broad range of medical emergencies, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and obstetric events.
- Familiarity with emergency protocols (Code Blue, STEMI, Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma Activation).
