Job Overview
The Bar Back supports the bartending and front-of-house team by ensuring bar operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position is responsible for stocking and replenishing supplies, maintaining cleanliness behind the bar, and assisting bartenders with setup, service, and breakdown. A Bar Back must demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a proactive approach in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Success in this role directly contributes to the bartenders ability to provide exceptional guest service.
General Responsibilities
- Stock bar with liquor, wine, beer, mixers, garnishes, ice, glassware, napkins, tools, and other supplies before and during service

Replenish and rotate product throughout the shift to maintain appropriate inventory levels

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area including counters, sinks, coolers, shelves, and storage spaces

Assist bartenders with glassware, bar tools, and garnishes during service

Retrieve and wash glassware using proper procedures and return to service area promptly

Empty trash and recyclables behind the bar throughout the shift and at close

Maintain bar setup and breakdown standards for opening and closing shifts

Assist with receiving and organizing bar deliveries; restock inventory as directed

Follow all safety, sanitation, and health code regulations to ensure compliance

Communicate clearly and professionally with bartenders, servers, and management

Support bartenders and servers in executing service to guest tables as needed

Perform other duties as assigned by the Beverage Director or Restaurant Manager

This position does not exercise independent judgment or decision-making authority. Tasks are performed under the direction of bartenders and management.
Job Qualifications
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
-
Minimum of 1 year restaurant, bar, or hospitality experience preferred

Strong communication and teamwork skills required

Ability to stay organized and work efficiently in a high-energy, fast-paced setting

Must speak and understand English fluently
Physical Requirements (ADA)

Ability to speak and hear clearly in a noisy environment

Frequent standing and walking for extended periods

Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and lifting

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly

Use of hands and arms for stocking, cleaning, and bar setup tasks

Ability to move quickly in tight or crowded spaces
Working Conditions

Fast-paced, high-volume restaurant and bar setting

Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, steam, and cleaning chemicals

Frequent exposure to loud noises, crowded workspaces, and dim lighting

Variable schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs dictate
