SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Engineering Department and support multi-discipline industrial projects across the full project life cycle. In this role, you will provide technical expertise in materials selection, corrosion engineering, protective coatings, insulation, and passive fire protection, working closely with project teams, clients, and vendors to deliver high-quality engineering solutions on time and within budget.
This is a great opportunity for a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with a strong industrial background who enjoys working independently, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing to a collaborative team environment. This job description covers both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines; candidates should have strong experience in one and are not expected to have expertise in the other.
KEY FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Prepare or review engineering deliverables consistent with discipline background, including mechanical equipment datasheets and piping specifications, or electrical single-line diagrams, load schedules, and cable schedules.
-
Coordinate with project teams, procurement, and vendors to support technical bid evaluations and equipment procurement.
-
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards including PIP, NACE/AMPP, ASME, API, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and other project-specific requirements.
-
Support field construction and commissioning activities, including inspections, punch lists, and as-built documentation.
-
Participate in industry standards organizations and contribute to the development of engineering specifications and practices.
-
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers as experience allows.
-
Support Business Development and proposal efforts with technical input on scope, man-hours, and cost estimates.
-
May have limited, project-specific oversight of junior engineers or technical staff.
-
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Mechanical Engineering
-
Support materials selection for piping and equipment on industrial EPC projects, considering corrosion mechanisms, temperature/pressure service conditions, and material compatibility across process services (e.g., Ethylene, FCC, LNG, Hydrogen, Ammonia, Carbon Capture); prepare or assist in preparing Materials Selection Diagrams (MSDs), Materials Selection Philosophies, and related engineering reports.
-
Review Process and Mechanical Datasheets, and vendor materials selections for capital equipment, for compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards; identify deviations and recommend corrective action.
-
Contribute to design of Protective Coating, Thermal/Acoustic Insulation, and Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems for equipment, piping, and structural steel, including surface prep, coating selection, DFT, application standards, and intumescent/cementitious fireproofing.
-
Review vendor procedures, material submittals, and specifications for coating, insulation, and fireproofing systems; issue technical comments and track resolution.
-
Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and Price Schedules for estimating coating, insulation, and fireproofing quantities on proposals and executed projects.
-
Build and maintain Excel-based tools for surface area calculations, MTO generation, Technical Bid Tabulations, and man-hour estimates.
-
Apply mechanical engineering calculations (stress, heat transfer, pressure containment) and support CFD/FEA analysis for thermal, structural, or flow evaluations as applicable.
-
Perform 3D parametric design of specialized process equipment components using CAD software as required.
Electrical Engineering
-
Support preparation of electrical deliverables including single lines, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, calculations, and reports.
-
Assist in the design and analysis of industrial electrical systems, including MCCs, switchgear, and low- and medium-voltage distribution.
-
Support electrical system studies (load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash) using ETAP or similar software.
-
Apply electrical engineering calculations (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination) to support project technical decisions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
-
Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting with site visits to client and industrial facilities as required, including active operating plants in hot climate conditions. All necessary PPE is provided. The role requires extended time at a desk and computer, the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, and communicate regularly. Must be able to perform job-site walks in full PPE, work in confined or restricted spaces as conditions require, and lift up to 15 pounds.
-
Site visits and travel between company office locations may be required with little or no advance notice, including both local trips and overnight or multi-day travel depending on project assignment and business needs.
-
Evening and weekend work may be required based on project demands; schedules are determined by departmental, client and production needs.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
-
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
-
7+ years professional engineering experience in an industrial setting (refining, petrochemical, LNG, gas processing, or similar).
-
PE Certification preferred.
-
Experience may be concentrated in mechanical/materials or electrical engineering disciplines; cross-disciplinary exposure is a plus but not required.
-
Strong Microsoft Excel skills (advanced) and Microsoft 365 applications.
