Automotive Salesperson
Summary:
Responsible for selling and leasing new and used vehicles while achieving dealership goals for sales volume, gross profit, and customer satisfaction. Builds relationships with customers, identifies transportation needs, presents vehicle solutions, and provides a professional sales experience from initial contact through vehicle delivery and post-sale follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet and exceed established monthly vehicle sales and leasing goals.
- Greet customers promptly and professionally in the showroom, on the lot, or through other sales channels.
- Build rapport with customers and identify vehicle needs through effective questioning and active listening.
- Assist customers in selecting vehicles that best fit their needs, preferences, and budget.
- Present and explain vehicle features, performance, benefits, warranties, and available options.
- Demonstrate vehicles and conduct test drives in accordance with dealership policies and procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of vehicle inventory, product updates, accessories, financing options, and industry trends.
- Explain vehicle values, equity positions, depreciation, and ownership costs to customers.
- Prepare accurate sales agreements, purchase orders, and all required sales documentation.
- Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and processed in compliance with dealership policies and legal requirements.
- Utilize dealership sales, CRM, prospecting, and follow-up systems effectively.
- Develop and maintain a customer prospecting pipeline to generate new business opportunities.
- Maintain a follow-up process that encourages repeat business, customer loyalty, and referrals.
- Ensure every customer has the opportunity to meet with a sales manager prior to leaving the dealership.
- Transition all completed sales opportunities to the Finance and Insurance (F&I) department with complete and accurate documentation.
- Assist with gathering required customer documents, insurance information, titles, and trade-in paperwork.
- Coordinate the preparation of sold vehicles prior to customer delivery.
- Deliver vehicles to customers and thoroughly explain vehicle operation, technology features, warranties, maintenance requirements, and ownership documentation.
- Introduce customers to service department personnel and explain available maintenance and repair services.
- Schedule initial service appointments for vehicle purchasers.
- Follow up on title work, registration, tag processing, dealer promises, special requests, and customer concerns after delivery.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and ensure all customer expectations are met throughout the sales process.
- Conduct business in an ethical, professional, and customer-focused manner.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing automotive retail sales.
- Establish personal performance goals and implement strategies to achieve sales objectives.
- Attend required sales meetings, product training, and professional development programs.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dealership dress code and uniform standards.
- Review sales performance regularly and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Assist with dealership events, promotions, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred.
- Previous automotive sales, retail sales, or customer service experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to learn and explain vehicle features, financing options, and dealership services.
- Proficient in computer systems, CRM software, and dealership management tools.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet performance goals.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
