Purpose of Job: Safely transports patients throughout the health care facility preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Assists nurses as needed. Establishes rapport with patients and their support persons. Transports equipment, supplies, blood and blood products, surgical specimens, and other items in a safe manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Basic Life Support certification required
- Must be in overall good health with satisfactory hearing and eyesight; must be able to bend reach, and lift 50 lbs. using good body mechanics
- Must be able to work forty (40) hours per week and overtime as deemed necessary by the supervisor
- Must be self-motivated, professional and maintain a positive attitude
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
2. Follows established protocols for safe patient handling (eg, safely moving, transferring, and transporting patients).
3. Follows established protocols for transporting equipment, supplies, blood and blood products, surgical specimens, and other items.
4. Follows established protocols for maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
5. Follows established protocols for using communication devices (eg, pagers, computers, cell phones).
6. Operates, transports, and transfers equipment safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
7. Safely moves, transfers, and transports patients onto transport vehicles (eg, wheelchairs, stretchers, patient beds, OR beds).
8. Operates patient lifting equipment and mechanical assist devices (eg, mechanical lift devices, air-assisted lateral transport devices, sling devices) safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
9. Adheres to infection prevention practices (ie, standard, contact, droplet, and airborne precautions), including the use of personal protective equipment.
10. Reports any physical findings or risk to physician or nurse.
11. Cleans designated areas and equipment and follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies, and equipment.
12. Follows established protocols for safe disposal of linens, trash, and supplies.
13. Inventories, receives, and restocks materials used for supporting perioperative services as assigned.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
15. Complies with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
16. Exhibits professional interpersonal communication skills.
17. Assists with quality improvement activities as assigned.
18. Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
