Assistant Project Manager - Atlanta-based General Contractor
Compensation: $85,000–$110,000 depending on experience + full benefits package.
Our client is a well-respected general contractor operating across the Southeast with a strong multifamily pipeline and a reputation for developing people who build long careers with them. This is a traveling role with active project teams. You will be on an active project in either Clemson, SC or Auburn, AL. Both projects run through mid-2028, and both teams are tight-knit and high-performing with strong senior leadership already in place.
This is a boots-on-ground role that sits one step below the Project Manager, with full involvement in project execution from submittals and RFIs to schedule, cost, and subcontractor management. For the right person, there is a path for that title to follow.
What You'll Be Doing
- Manage the submittal and RFI process end-to-end; review, track, distribute, and follow up until closed
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers on schedule, materials, and conflict resolution
- Participate in schedule development and maintain near-term look-aheads
- Identify and resolve design drawing conflicts; keep the project team informed throughout
- Administer owner and subcontractor change orders and track scope changes with the PM
- Assist with monthly owner billings and cost projection
- Support jobsite safety program implementation alongside the Superintendent
- Help mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Ideal Background
- 3–4 years of experience in commercial construction with a GC, ideally in an APM or Project Engineer role
- Multifamily experience is strongly preferred; background in healthcare, data centers, or other complex multi-bed project types is also a great fit
- B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
- Comfortable in Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office; Primavera P6 familiarity is a plus
- Strong communicator, you follow up persistently and don't let things fall through the cracks
- Ready to be on-site daily and commit to the project location through mid-2028
Why This Role
- Join a high-functioning team with experienced PM and superintendent leadership already in place
- Real responsibility from day one, this isn't a support role, it's a key seat on an active project
- Experience running large $100M+ multifamily scopes
- Strong track record of investing in and promoting APMs into leadership
- Solid peers on both teams, collaborative, experienced, and worth building a career alongside
- Clear path forward for the right person as this role and the organization continue to evolve
