Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in dental assisting, with expertise in supporting various surgical procedures, maintaining clinical confidentiality, and ensuring optimal patient care.
Hours:
Monday - Wednesday: 7:30 AM - 5 PM
Thursday: 7:30 AM - 2 PM
Occasional Fridays
Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments in accordance with infection prevention management and dental sterilization procedures.
- Assist the dentist during oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other specialty procedures using aseptic techniques and dental equipment.
- Manage patient flow by coordinating appointments, updating medical records, and utilizing patient management software to ensure efficient clinic operations.
- Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans, ensuring accurate medical imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Monitor vital signs and medical documentation to ensure patient safety throughout procedures while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care, including oral hygiene instructions and medication guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by processing dental instruments properly and adhering to infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with the dental team, including dental receptionists and hygienists, to deliver comprehensive patient care in general dentistry settings.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting or a related healthcare environment with familiarity in surgical support roles.
- Knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for accurate documentation.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to oral surgery and pediatric dentistry.
- Proficiency in dental x-ray techniques, medical imaging, and the operation of dental equipment including 3D scanners.
- Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively while maintaining professionalism.
- Certification or training in dental assisting is preferred; familiarity with HIPAA regulations is essential for maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for optimal clinical workflow.
