Union: This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

NOTE: Applicants must provide their own set of tools. Please click HERE to view the tools needed at the time of hire. All employees hired as a titled Heavy Equipment Repair Specialist will receive an annual tool allowance of $700 towards the purchase of all specified tools by June 1 of each year. This is subject to change based on the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifying Requirements:
Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status via email.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience in heavy equipment mechanics. Applicants must list all equipment repaired in the last two (2) years. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a high school diploma or general equivalency.
EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position, based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above. The Total Qualifying Requirement is two (2) years. (See NOTE under General Application Requirements regarding education/training verification.)

- Repairs, services, and operates various types of heavy equipment (i.e., rubber and track high lifts, dozers, rubber and track pavers, rollers, graders, backhoes, sweepers, tractors, gradalls, etc.).

Repairs and services various types of small equipment (i.e., asphalt whackers, water pumps, landscaping equipment, etc.).

Installs, repairs and services various types of winter operations equipment (i.e., salt spreaders, plows, electronic spreader controls, etc.).

Inspects all mechanical equipment and repairs and/or replaces parts as needed or required.

Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are observed in the operation of, repair of and vicinity of equipment.

Prepares parts orders for purchase.

Drives a City vehicle as required.

Uses a variety of technological hardware (i.e., computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, GPS, cameras, etc.) and/or software (i.e., email, Cartegraph, Microsoft Office, etc.) to maintain records and prepare accurate reports on work performed.

Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.

May work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
