American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 48-hour/week ICU travel position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
-
Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma

Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR with 24–48 hours post-op experience

Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3

Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
-
12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation is the target schedule

No on-call requirements

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Active RN license in South Dakota or a Compact state

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered

Epic EMR experience required

Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
-
Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred

Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

First-time travelers will not be considered; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required

Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)

Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts

May occasionally be expected to precept students

No RTO during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with extensions required to fulfill the full contract
