We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Team Lead to oversee a crew of fitters and welders in a fast-paced fabrication facility. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong fitting and fabrication background who can guide a team while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
The successful candidate will lead by example, assist with complex fabrication challenges, and work closely with production leadership to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Please Note: Candidates must have experience in a structural steel fabrication environment.
- Partner with the Shop Foreman and department leaders to meet production schedules and delivery deadlines
- Supervise fitters and welders while promoting a culture of safety, quality, and accountability
- Assign daily workloads to maximize productivity and workflow efficiency
- Provide hands-on support with fabrication questions, layout interpretation, welding techniques, and troubleshooting
- Monitor project timelines and adjust crew assignments as production priorities change
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to keep fabrication equipment operating efficiently
- Establish clear expectations, provide coaching, and encourage open communication with team members
- Collaborate with the Quality Control team to maintain AISC quality standards
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, employee evaluations, training, timekeeping, and performance management
- Perform additional leadership and production support duties as needed
- Proven experience in structural steel fabrication, including fitting, layout, and production operations
- Previous experience leading or supervising fabrication teams
- Strong knowledge of structural steel materials, fabrication methods, and welding processes
- Familiarity with CNC fabrication equipment and material handling operations
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures, quality standards, and cost-conscious production practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- Ability to work overtime and Saturdays when production schedules require
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical certifications or an associate degree in a manufacturing, welding, or related field
- Experience coordinating production schedules and supporting continuous process improvements
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop fabrication teams
