Duties
- Operate tractor-trailers across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring timely and safe deliveries of freight, including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, or hazardous materials.
- Load and unload cargo using appropriate manual handling techniques, forklift equipment, or other tools as needed, adhering strictly to safety protocols.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, optimizing delivery schedules while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo handling, and delivery documentation in accordance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations, including proper documentation and safety procedures.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch teams for route updates, delivery confirmations, and issue resolution to ensure seamless operations.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure compliance with safety standards and report any mechanical issues promptly.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the type of freight transported (e.g., Hazmat endorsement if applicable).
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including tractor-trailer operations such as flatbed, tanker, or refrigerated trailers.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazard materials regulations, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and route planning for long-distance over-the-road routes.
- Ability to manually handle freight safely during loading/unloading processes; forklift or other equipment certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling procedures for freight types such as freight shipments or specialized loads like dangerous goods.
- Excellent driving record demonstrating safe driving habits over extended routes.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight manually or using equipment; must meet DOT physical requirements.
