The firm partners with early-stage enterprises providing commercialization strategies and the execution needed to make companies suitable for institutional venture and/or private equity funding. This includes guidance and commercial insight to augment their IP, financial, operational, commercial, strategic, legal, and executive capabilities to achieve product launch, attract customers, and obtain growth capital.
The leadership team includes respected business leaders with decades of experience investing in creative companies that have evolved into solid commercial enterprises, some of which were taken public.
This is a partner track opportunity.
We seek an exceptional Investment Operations candidate who brings experience as a functional expert to work directly with portfolio companies to accelerate that companies’ growth, scale operations, and refine go-to-market strategies. S/He will dive into hands-on company building, post-investment.
The ideal candidate will bring significant exposure to the inner workings of small startup-like transactions including legal, financial, commercial, and IP aspects. S/he brings a minimum of 3 years of experience as part of the team providing portfolio companies with due diligence, operational & strategic value. We seek a team member with a positive, entrepreneurial, mindset and a hands-on approach to actively work with the portfolio companies to influence business strategies to improve operations, drive revenue growth and increase profitability.
Candidates with a background that includes Cleantech, Retail Tech and Life Science bring an advantage. S/he will have experience working in private equity, a venture or investment fund, preferably in a junior partner and/or support role with a level of experience in legal, financial, commercial, and IP related issues.
Duties/essential functions include working with the Fund Managers and assist with the:
- execution of special projects including inception of the fund
- support as needed in the funding round evaluation
- research and evaluation of potential portfolio company investments
- management of the due diligence processes with potential portfolio companies
- preparation of business plans and tactics for portfolio companies including:
o Company structure
o Funding requirements
o Business plans
- schedule and run regular progress report meetings with Fund Managers and portfolio companies.
- assist in the marketing efforts with potential Limited Partners
- execution of administrative tasks related to fund management and portfolio company investments.
- Follow-On Funding: work with managers for additional equity or securing credit facilities to fund research and development or expansion initiatives.
- Team member in Debt Optimization: Restructuring existing debt, securing favorable loan terms, and optimizing the capital structure for better liquidity.
- Financial Reporting: Assisting in the implementation of robust internal controls, audits, and compliance tracking.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
Ability to support the fund’s inception process with end-to-end administration
- Ability to foster deep trust-based professional relationship with colleagues, entrepreneurs, and potential investors.
- Ability to understand technology at a conceptual level and acquire technical jargon overtime.
- Great Project Management skills: Detail oriented, organized.
- Ability to comprehend investment and company documents of legal nature. Candidate is expected to become able, with experience, to draft basic contractual language including term-sheets and basic contracts.
- Inherently a creative thinker with good analytical abilities.
- Understanding of Finance and Accounting concepts.
- Ability to prepare and manage budgets, prepare cash flow statements, and prepare financial analysis.
- Ability to co-lead conference calls and meetings.
- Bring or have innate potential to develop negotiations skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Ability to understand and analyze financial statements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with business and financial terms and concepts including finance, accounting, marketing, legal, IP etc.
- Must bring the DNA to go the extra mile to help the firm secure new business and be motivated to learn new skills and aspects of the venture business.
- Ability to assist in creating presentation collaterals
- Bring a nature of optimism and enthusiasm
EDUCATION
Undergraduate Business degree is required, focused in Finance/Accounting, Engineering, or Law. A graduate degree in Business or Law is preferred, especially if the candidate also has a relevant undergraduate degree.
LOCATION AND TRAVEL
Bay Area, CA.
Remote with a 2-days per week in-office basis after 60 days
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of workdays to Bay Area portfolio company sites, sometimes on short notice. Transportation reimbursed. Some US travel may be required thus a Real ID or valid Passport is required.
SALARY RANGE
- A market-drive comp package includes a generous base and bonus, plus 5% matching 401K
