Supervisor/Dispatcher, Student Transportation

Position Summary: The Supervisor/Dispatcher ensures smooth, compliant, and efficient daily operations by maintaining control of the radio network, providing real-time support to drivers,
managing emergency situations, and coordinating route changes.
Specific Duties Include:
- Manage the radio network.
- Enforce compliance with FCC regulations and Student Transport guidelines.
- Report driver infractions and mechanical issues promptly to relevant personnel.
- Provide guidance, resolve issues, and offer direction via radio while remaining calm, listening and communicating with patience and empathy.
- Obtain essential information during incidents such as breakdowns or medical crises.
- Handle emergencies from start to finish, supporting all drivers simultaneously.
- Adjust schedules due to weather, colleague absences, or unexpected events.
- Assess situations, anticipate outcomes, and take appropriate action to ensure safety and timeliness.
- Independently analyze and decide on solutions, prioritizing safe transit.
- Collaborate with fellow Supervisor/Dispatchers for smooth route substitutions.
- Accurately record route changes, substitutions, and adjustments as needed.
- Use location knowledge, available resources, and creativity to cover all routes.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in basic keyboarding, data entry, and experience with MS Word, Excel, Zonar, and GA Navigator (511).
- Effective, diplomatic, and professional communication style with transportation staff, school personnel, and parents.
- Ability to multitask, adapt to current events, and manage changing situations simultaneously in a dynamic work environment.
- Analytical skills to evaluate scenarios, apply sound judgment, and act decisively to expedite safety-focused solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to complete assignments promptly by following directions.
- Exhibit cooperative, supportive behavior and share information willingly within the department.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- CDL-Commercial Driver License with Passenger Student (PS) endorsement.
- 5+ years of experience in driving or dispatching, with familiarity in radio system usage.
- Typing speed of at least 30 WPM.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations and Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety rules.
- Familiarity with Metro Atlanta geography for effective decision-making.
- Ability to adjust working hours/shifts as operational needs or emergency situations arise.
The Supervisor/Dispatcher, Student Transportation position is a non-exempt, 12-month position.
