Responsibilities
- Administer intravenous infusions including medications such as botulinum toxin treatments and other specialty therapies with precision and adherence to protocols.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine appropriate infusion plans, monitor vital signs, and evaluate responses to treatment.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during all procedures to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.
- Document all procedures accurately within electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), including medication administration, patient responses, and any adverse reactions.
- Educate patients about their infusion therapies, potential side effects, and post-treatment care instructions to promote understanding and compliance.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans for complex cases such as critical care or trauma medicine.
- Monitor for signs of acute pain or allergic reactions during infusions and respond swiftly with appropriate interventions.
Experience
- Proven experience working as an infusion nurse or in a similar clinical setting such as hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU, or outpatient clinics.
- Strong background in medical-surgical nursing with familiarity in IV insertion, catheter care, phlebotomy, and venipuncture techniques.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation and patient record management.
- Experience handling specialized treatments including botulinum toxin therapy, dialysis access management, or infusion therapies in ophthalmology or geriatrics is highly desirable.
- Critical care experience such as ICU or trauma center exposure enhances ability to manage urgent situations effectively.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for safe infusion practices.
- Additional skills in pain management, medication administration, medical terminology, and patient assessment are preferred to ensure comprehensive patient care.
