Provides direct and indirect patient care in the progressive care setting. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.

- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Assesses and cares for patients in the post anesthesia period both in the PACU and ICU.
- Performs cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.
- Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Formulates an individualized plan of care, revises plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
Provides morning/evening care which may include brushing teeth, showering/bathing patients, peri care, foley catheter cares, and denture care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or current enrollment program preferred. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice areas as required by State or Federal standards/regulations. Minimum of one (1) year of Progressive Care Unit experience preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Exam (NIHSS) are required within 6 months of employment.
