Paramedic - Base/Area Manager
Role Overview
This manager is a hybrid working-manager position responsible for both active field response as a crew member and base-level leadership responsibilities. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for areas such as day-to-day operations, staffing coordination, equipment readiness, and employee oversight at an assigned station, while continuing to function as a regularly scheduled EMT or Paramedic.
The Base Manager reports directly to the Regional Director and receives an additional stipend in recognition of leadership and administrative responsibilities beyond standard field duties.
Compensation Structure
- Primary Pay: Hourly compensation for field shifts worked on an ambulance
- Additional Compensation: Fixed Base Manager stipend (not tied to hours worked)
- Note: Leadership responsibilities do not replace or eliminate required field assignments
Reporting Structure
- Reports To: Regional Director
- Functional Oversight: Assigned base staff during shifts and operational matters
- Works Closely With: Dispatch, Regional Leadership, Support Services
Core Responsibilities
Field Operations
- Work assigned shifts on an ambulance as a Critical Care Paramedic.
- Deliver patient care in accordance with clinical protocols, company policy, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain professional conduct, appearance, and performance expectations expected of all field staff.
- Serve as a role model for clinical competence, patient interaction, and crew behavior.
Base Operations & Readiness
- Ensure daily operational readiness of the assigned station, vehicles, and equipment.
- Verify completion of rig checks, medication inventories, station duties, and cleaning standards.
- Identify and report mechanical, equipment, or supply issues and coordinate resolution.
- Ensure base compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Staff Leadership & Scheduling Support
- Provide day-to-day oversight and leadership to base-assigned personnel.
- Assist in addressing same-day staffing issues in coordination with Dispatch and the Regional Director.
- Reinforce attendance, punctuality, and scheduling expectations.
- Support onboarding and base-level orientation of new hires.
Performance Management & Accountability
- Observe employee performance and professionalism during routine operations.
- Provide real-time coaching and corrective feedback when standards are not met.
- Document coaching, incidents, and corrective actions in accordance with company policy.
- Escalate significant or repeated performance concerns to the Regional Director.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Promote compliance with operational, safety, and clinical standards.
- Support QA/QI activities, incident reporting, and investigations as required.
- Address safety concerns and policy violations promptly and professionally.
Communication & Coordination
- Act as the primary base-level point of contact for operational matters.
- Maintain professional and effective communication with Dispatch to support service delivery.
- Provide regular updates to the Regional Director on staffing, morale, and operational issues.
- Participate in leadership meetings and briefings as required.
Culture & Leadership Presence
- Model company values and behavioral expectations.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and respectful workplace culture.
- Address conflicts early and reinforce professionalism at the base level.
- Serve as a visible leadership presence without removing themselves from frontline work.
Scope of Authority
- May provide coaching and initiate performance documentation.
- May manage day-to-day base operations and personnel oversight.
- Does not have independent authority to terminate employees, alter policies, or approve exceptions without Regional Director approval.
Required Qualifications
- Current Paramedic certification (state-appropriate).
- Current Critical Care Paramedic certification
- Minimum 3 years EMS field experience.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and leadership aptitude.
- Ability to balance field responsibilities with leadership expectations.

- The stipend reflects accountability and availability, not reduced field workload.
- Continued clinical and operational competence is mandatory.
Position Summary
The Base/Area Manager is a working leader. Someone who sets the standard by action, not title. This role bridges frontline operations and leadership by ensuring the base runs smoothly while maintaining credibility through continued field work.
Pay: $103,184.00 - $116,496.00 per year
