The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is searching for talented individuals to join our team as a Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) to work in the Customer Service Center (CSC). The CSC responds to approximately 600,000 calls, 27,000 chats, and 17,000 emails per year, providing customers and taxpayers with information on more than 42 CDTFA tax and fee programs.
Under the general supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator I, Customer Service Center (CSC), the Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) performs complex compliance duties and serves as the lead trainer for CSC staff and staff from other divisions, such as the Field Operations Division (FOD). The position is responsible for developing and delivering training to new and current staff on responding to taxpayer inquiries and applying the various tax laws and programs administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). In a lead capacity, the BTCS provides ongoing guidance, coaching, and technical support to compliance staff and assists them in resolving complex taxpayer issues received through the call center. The position prepares training materials, maintains updated instructional resources, and supports staff understanding of CDTFA systems, including the Centralized Revenue Opportunity System.
The BTCS also provides chat services, develops and updates chat related training materials, prepares chat reports, and issues written responses to staff and the public. Additionally, the position assists CSC staff with call center software issues.
As needed, the BTCS may act as a backup to the supervisor by reviewing assignments, monitoring call center operations, and representing CSC at meetings. Travel of up to ten percent (10%), including overnight travel, may be required to conduct training at CDTFA offices statewide.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.
