We are looking for a kind, dependable, experienced caregiver/CNA to provide in-home assistance for an elderly woman named Jackie in the Ballston Lake, NY area.
Jackie is mentally sharp, lucid, and independent-minded. She does not need someone hovering over her or constantly entertaining her. At this time, she is not looking for a companion to sit and chit-chat with her. She primarily needs someone who is nearby, attentive, and ready to provide physical assistance when she needs it, while otherwise allowing her space and independence.
We are looking for someone who is warm and respectful but not overly familiar or patronizing. Please call her Jackie — no “sweetie,” “honey,” or similar terms of endearment.
This position is primarily focused on personal care, mobility assistance, safety, and practical help. We already have help with general housekeeping, so this is not a housekeeping position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting Jackie with getting in and out of bed
- Helping with transfers from a chair, bed, or toilet
- Toileting and personal care assistance
- Helping with dressing and basic daily activities as needed
- Repositioning and helping her get comfortable
- Walking/mobility assistance and fall prevention
- Being available when she needs assistance without hovering
- Allowing and encouraging her to do what she can independently
- Light assistance related to her daily care needs
- Keeping the family informed of any concerns or changes
Important Physical Requirement
Applicant must be physically strong and comfortable assisting a woman who weighs approximately 100–110 lbs with transfers, including helping her rise from a seated position, bed, or toilet.
You should understand proper transfer techniques and be able to assist safely and confidently without injuring yourself or Jackie.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced caring for older adults
- CNA, HHA, PCA, or someone with comparable hands-on caregiving experience
- Calm, respectful, and professional
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable providing personal care
- Physically capable of assisting with transfers
- Attentive to safety without being overbearing
- Able to recognize when help is needed and when to give Jackie her space
- Comfortable working in a private family home
- Someone who understands that mental sharpness and physical limitations are two very different things
The right person will understand the balance we are looking for: be available, observant, and capable when Jackie needs help, but otherwise allow her to maintain her privacy, dignity, and independence.
