American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery Break Nurse position requiring WA or compact RN licensure and prior high-acuity L&D experience.

Work in the Birth Center unit of a Level II Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU
-
34 L&D beds including 15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, and 3 OR
-
18-bed Postpartum unit
-
This is a Break Nurse position, scheduled 2 per shift
-
High acuity patient population including hypertension, Mg administration, C-sections (33% rate), preterm labor, insulin drips, vaginal deliveries, epidurals, inductions, antepartum, PROM, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage
-
Up to 300 deliveries per month
-
Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 active labor, 1:2 non-active laboring, 1:2-3 antepartum depending on acuity

10-hour night shifts, 40 hours per week

Shift times 1900-0730
-
Weekend rotation required every other weekend, though schedule may vary based on need
-
No mandatory call requirements, though may pick up available open shifts as needed

Floating required to Antepartum (within L&D) and occasionally Postpartum (4th floor), within scope and experience
-
Schedules are made in 6-week increments and released 2 weeks prior to the schedule starting
-
Block schedules cannot be guaranteed

Active WA or compact RN license required
-
Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN)
-
Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required; candidates with previous travel experience preferred, 5+ years ideal
-
First-time travelers considered upon review

High acuity L&D experience required, including labor management and delivery of high-risk OB patients
-
Ability to triage OB patients and circulate in OR
-
Skilled in cervical checks and reading/interpreting fetal monitoring strips
-
Ability to serve as second set of hands to receive and recover normal newborns as needed
-
EPIC EMR experience required
-
Provide labor and delivery nursing care as a scheduled Break Nurse, relieving unit staff during shifts
-
Support includes CNAs, LPN scrub techs (NRP certified), receptionist/HUC, free-floating charge nurse, and resource RN pending staffing needs
-
RT support available 24/7, including NICU RTs for high-risk deliveries
-
Laborist coverage available 24/7 with residents, fellows, and additional physicians/midwives on call
-
Anesthesia coverage scheduled during day shift and shared after 1700
-
Uses Alaris CareFusion IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Centricity/Qx fetal monitors, CAD Solaris epidural pumps, Panda warmers, and Coviden SCDs
-
Orientation includes hospital NEO (1 day) and 2 days on the unit, with orientation occurring during day shift even though the position is for nights

Cardiac rhythm test not required for this unit

Holiday coverage expected on a fair and equitable basis

RTO requests must be submitted and approved prior to contract approval

Scrub color provided by facility; scrubs must not be worn outside the facility
