About Velari Consulting
Velari Consulting Inc. is a California-based consulting firm specializing in operational consulting, compliance & process improvement, leadership & change management, and AI consulting. Velari partners with business entities and school districts to build operational excellence, sharpen go-to-market strategy, and business development ops for clients.
This is Velari's first hire. You will work directly with the Founder & CEO and play a foundational role in building the systems, relationships, and processes that the company will run on for years to come. This role is structured as part-time to start, with a clear path to grow in hours, scope, and title as Velari scales.
Position Summary
The Business Development & Operations Associate is a versatile, high-ownership part-time role built for someone who wants more responsibility than a typical entry-level position offers. You will manage Velari's sales pipeline and RFP tracking systems, support proposal production, execute outreach campaigns, and take on operational tasks that free the Founder to focus on client relationships and strategy. This role is explicitly designed to grow, in hours, scope, autonomy, and title, as you prove capability.
Core Responsibilities
Sales & Pipeline Operations
- Maintain and update the Velari Sales Pipeline (CRM-style tracker) — lead status, next actions, and follow-up dates
- Own the RFP Tracker: monitor deadlines, log new opportunities, and flag priority bids using the RFP scoring rubric
- Manage and execute Apollo email sequences targeting afterschool providers and school districts
- Conduct research to identify new leads (districts, providers, grant opportunities such as CCSPP) within Velari's target geography
Proposal & Document Support
- Assist in drafting and formatting client proposals, consulting agreements, and briefing decks using Velari's brand standards
- Support RFP responses — compiling requirements, drafting first-pass content, and coordinating internal review
- Maintain document templates and ensure brand consistency across client-facing materials
Operations & Administration
- Support client onboarding processes and maintain onboarding checklists
- Assist with scheduling, meeting prep, and follow-up coordination for client and prospect calls
- Help maintain internal systems: invoice tracker, weekly sales briefing deck, and reporting cadences
Marketing & Brand Visibility
- Plan and publish social media posts (LinkedIn and other relevant platforms) to build Velari presence in the K-12 expanded learning space
- Maintain a content calendar covering client wins, industry news, RFP/grant deadlines, and thought-leadership posts
- Represent Velari at industry conferences and tradeshows — booth setup, staffing, attendee engagement, and lead capture
- Coordinate marketing collateral for events (banners, one-pagers, business cards) and ensure brand consistency
- Follow up on leads and contacts gathered from tradeshows and events, feeding qualified leads into the Sales Pipeline
- Support light website updates and email newsletter content as needed
What Success Looks Like Over Time
- Months 1-3: Learn Velari's systems, tools, and clients. Take full ownership of pipeline and RFP tracker health.
- Months 4-9: Independently manage outreach sequences and produce first-pass proposals with minimal oversight.
- Year 1+: Own a defined segment of the pipeline (a client vertical or geographic region), take on more hours as workload grows, own Velari's marketing presence and event calendar, and contribute to strategy discussions; potential path to Senior Associate or Business Development Manager as Velari scales.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 2+ years of experience in sales operations, business development, proposal/grant writing, or consulting
- Familiarity with, or strong interest in learning, K-12 expanded learning, afterschool programming, or education procurement
- Highly organized with strong written communication skills — comfortable producing polished, client-ready documents
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities; energized by building processes rather than just following them
- Proficiency (or fast aptitude) with CRM tools, Excel/Google Sheets, and outreach platforms (Apollo or similar)
- Comfortable managing social media accounts and creating simple, professional content (LinkedIn experience a plus)
- Willing and able to travel occasionally for conferences and tradeshows, including representing Velari at a booth for a full event day
- Motivated by growth and ownership — someone looking to grow into a long-term seat at a growing company, not just a short-term part-time role
Schedule & Compensation
This is a part-time, non-exempt position, structured to reward growth alongside the company:
Base Pay (Hourly)
Anticipated Hours
- 20-25 hours/week to start
Bonus
- 3% commission on sale + potential performance bonus
Growth Incentive
- Hourly rate increases tied to title progression (Associate → Senior Associate → Manager) with defined pay bands at each stage
Path to Full-Time
- As Velari's pipeline and revenue grow, this role has a clear path to expanded hours and eventual full-time status, with compensation and benefits to match
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Founder & CEO. As Velari grows, this role is expected to expand in hours and take on supervisory responsibility for future BD/operations hires.
