Job Title: Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist
Location: Century City, CA
Job Summary
Under general supervision, assists physicians and staff members in providing health care to patients; perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly.
Responsibilities
Administrative – 45%
1. Greet and log in patients arriving at the clinic
2. Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, scheduling, and completing insurance/disability forms
3. Manage appointments of the patients in accordance with the time and schedule of the physicians and also furnishing the patients with all necessary information
4. Copying the appointment schedule and giving it to the providers and other personnel involved in patient care
5. Maintain current patient information/demographic data and handle all data entry work that would help the health care organization function efficiently
6. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
7. When new patients arrive, present registration packet and notify personnel that the patient has arrived
8. Schedule ultrasounds, echocardiograms or any additional in-house diagnostic testing
9. Keep financial records and collect co-payments
10. Assist with completion of Doctor’s First Reports
11. Provide manual totals of patient counts including no-shows, reschedules, etc. by the end of each clinic day to the Clinic Director and all managers
12. Make sure inventory is stocked and ready for the following workday
Prescriptions/Referrals – 10%
1. Dispense medications, log medications into computer, and maintain signature log
2. Double-check all prescriptions and patient demographics to ensure it has been properly documented prior to faxing to appropriate pharmacy
3. Initial all prescription fax confirmations
4. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physician’s instructions to patients
Patient Care – 40%
1. Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
2. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician/PA
3. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician/PA
4. Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log specimens, and prepare them for testing by properly filling out and signing lab requisition forms as well as calling for STAT pick-up and regular pick-ups
5. Operate electrocardiogram (EKG), Plethysmography (ICG), Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests
6. Dressing change, staple and suture removal
Maintenance – 5 %
1. Clean all common areas
2. Maintain a list of office supplies needed for ordering
Qualifications
Required:
· Technical course certificate or diploma in medical assistantship
· Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
· Ability to take direction and carry them out efficiently and completely
· Ability to provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person
· Ability to organize/prioritize work
· Knowledge in the use of standard office machines
· Follow all rules and regulations per HIPPA and OSHA and maintain strict confidentiality
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
· Must have phlebtomy experience.
Pay: $25-$27 per hour plus full benefits.
