Job Overview
The Warehouse Team Lead is responsible for leading the daily operations of the warehouse while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence. This position provides direct leadership to warehouse associates, coordinates shipping and receiving activities, maintains inventory accuracy, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that support customer satisfaction and business objectives.
This position serves as a key operational leader responsible for developing employees, improving warehouse performance, and building strong partnerships across multiple departments including Operations, Sales, Production, Quality, Inventory Control, Transportation, Customer Service, and Leadership.
This is not a traditional desk-based management position. The Warehouse Team Lead is expected to divide their time between the warehouse floor and the shipping office, providing hands-on operational leadership while completing the administrative responsibilities necessary to support a safe, efficient, and high-performing warehouse operation.
The successful candidate will maintain a visible presence throughout the operation, lead by example, hold employees accountable, communicate effectively across departments, and create a positive work environment where employees are motivated to perform at their highest level.

Hands-On Leadership Expectations
The Warehouse Team Lead is expected to maintain a strong and visible presence throughout both the warehouse and the shipping office. This is a working leadership position that balances daily operational leadership with the administrative responsibilities necessary to support warehouse performance.
While administrative responsibilities are an important part of the position, most of the leader’s time should be spent actively engaged on the warehouse floor—leading employees, monitoring operations, providing coaching, solving problems, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
The Warehouse Team Lead will:
- Maintain a visible presence on both the warehouse floor and within the shipping office throughout each workday.
- Spend most of the workday actively supporting warehouse operations while completing required administrative responsibilities.
- Lead from the warehouse floor by working alongside team members during picking, packing, shipping, receiving, replenishment, inventory control, and other operational activities when needed.
- Monitor workflow in real time and provide immediate coaching, direction, and support to employees.
- Complete administrative responsibilities including scheduling, warehouse documentation, inventory transactions, shipping documentation, reporting, email communication, and warehouse management system updates.
- Review operational metrics and use data to improve productivity, quality, safety, and customer service.
- Maintain effective communication with Sales, Production, Quality, Transportation, Inventory Control, Customer Service, Maintenance, and Leadership.
- Remain approachable, accessible, and engaged with employees throughout each shift.
- Balance warehouse leadership and administrative responsibilities without sacrificing operational visibility or employee support.

Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Employee Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop warehouse associates.
- Conduct daily startup meetings covering safety, operational priorities, and performance expectations.
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Train and onboard new employees.
- Conduct performance observations, coaching sessions, and evaluations.
- Administer corrective actions when appropriate.
- Recognize employee accomplishments and encourage professional growth.

Warehouse Operations
- Oversee daily warehouse operations including picking, packing, shipping, receiving, replenishment, inventory movement, and warehouse organization.
- Ensure customer orders are processed accurately and shipped on time.
- Balance labor assignments to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor workflow and adjust priorities based on operational needs.
- Ensure staging areas remain organized and shipment ready.
- Support warehouse management system transactions and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Coordinate resources to meet customer demand and operational objectives.
Inventory Management
- Maintain high inventory accuracy.
- Perform routine cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Ensure warehouse locations are properly labeled and organized.
- Enforce FIFO inventory practices where applicable.
- Monitor damaged, expired, and obsolete inventory.
- Maintain organized storage locations that support efficiency and accuracy.
Shipping & Receiving
- Coordinate inbound and outbound freight activities.
- Verify shipping and receiving documentation.
- Ensure shipments meet customer and carrier requirements.
- Work closely with transportation providers and internal departments.
- Support efficient dock scheduling and warehouse flow.
- Maintain shipment quality and loading standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Verify forklift inspections are completed before equipment operation.
- Conduct warehouse safety inspections.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Experience with inventory control and warehouse management systems (NetSuite experience preferred).
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours as business needs require.
- Demonstrated hands-on leadership with high standards for safety, productivity, teamwork, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in food manufacturing, distribution, or consumer packaged goods (CPG).
- Experience leading Lean or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety regulations and OSHA compliance.
- Experience using NetSuite or similar Warehouse Management Systems.
- Experience managing warehouse performance metrics and KPIs.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
- Bend, squat, climb, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
- Work in varying warehouse temperatures, including cooler storage environments.
- Occasionally work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules as business needs require.
