Position Summary:
These positions will be contracted evaluators who will be paid on a case-by-case basis. You will be reimbursed for the evaluation and any addendums provided.
The Behavioral Health Forensic Evaluation Center (BHFEC) at Philadelphia Family Court is tasked with providing a comprehensive range of evaluation services that address the psychiatric and psychological needs of individuals referred by Philadelphia Family Court. Evaluations involve referrals from dependent
and/or delinquent courtrooms and address the emotional and behavioral health treatment needs of referred individuals and/or specialized legal questions. Evaluations serve to assist the Court as well as its stakeholders (e.g. attorneys, child welfare caseworkers, Community Behavioral Health, other providers,
families), who rely on these evaluations and recommendations to guide decision making and assist with case planning. Telehealth opportunities are available for appointments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The role and function of a BHFEC evaluation is to provide clinically astute, professionally sound observations, information, results, and opinions regarding the emotional and behavioral health treatment needs of individuals involved with Family Court to assist with case and treatment planning. Evaluations address the particular psychological/psychiatric, behavioral, and developmental needs of the individual in a resilience/strength based and trauma-informed framework, including an understanding of systemic and racial trauma. Reports are expected to be finalized within 10 calendar days of the date of appointment.
Skills Required:
Experience completing psychiatric evaluations for children and youth; forensic evaluation experience preferred; expertise in report writing; an understanding of the behavioral health system and community resources in Philadelphia.
Education and Experience:
Medical degree; valid and current PA license to practice psychiatry; experience in forensic evaluations preferred; must not be precluded from participating in PA Medical Assistance program; relevant child abuse and criminal clearances; provision of other credentialing materials as requested. BHFEC evaluations serve a forensic purpose, are utilized in Family Court matters, and require specialized
knowledge. Education, training, experience, supervision, and/or consultation in areas including but not limited to: forensic practice, juvenile justice and child welfare (and disparities existing within these systems), child and family development, child and adult psychopathology, developmental disabilities, diversity and cultural competence, gender and sexuality, the impact of family separation, the nature and impact of child abuse, intimate partner violence, substance abuse, and an awareness and understanding of trauma, including racial and systemic trauma, will assist evaluators in their work with the BHFEC.
