We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – OR Circulator to join our new and growing ambulatory surgery center. This position is ideal for a confident perioperative nurse who already has hands-on operating room circulating experience and is comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment.
As we continue to build and expand our surgical team, we are looking for an RN who can bring strong clinical judgment, organization, professionalism, and knowledge of operating room workflow to the center. The OR Circulator will be responsible for coordinating patient care throughout the intraoperative period while working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub personnel, and nursing staff to ensure safe and efficient surgical care.
Previous OR circulating experience is required. We are specifically seeking a nurse who is already comfortable functioning independently in the circulator role. Ambulatory .
Duties
- Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures and coordinate patient care throughout the intraoperative period.
- Complete patient verification, surgical site verification, time-outs, and other required safety processes.
- Prepare and assess the operating room prior to each procedure to ensure necessary equipment, supplies, medications, and surgical materials are available and functioning appropriately.
- Assist with safe patient positioning, preparation, and transfer to and from the operating room.
- Maintain awareness of the sterile field and immediately identify and address any breaks in sterile technique.
- Perform and document surgical counts in collaboration with the scrub technician.
- Accurately label, handle, document, and coordinate surgical specimens.
- Complete timely and accurate intraoperative nursing documentation.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub technicians, PACU staff, and other members of the surgical team.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition or procedural needs.
- Follow facility policies related to infection prevention, medication safety, patient safety, emergency procedures, and HIPAA.
- Participate in room turnover and preparation for upcoming cases as needed.
- Contribute to the development of a positive, professional, and team-oriented culture as our surgery center continues to grow.
Qualifications and Skills
- Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
- Prior operating room circulating experience required.
- Ability to independently perform the responsibilities of an OR Circulator.
- Strong knowledge of surgical asepsis, sterile technique, patient positioning, surgical counts, specimen handling, and intraoperative documentation.
- Current BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Ambulatory Surgery Center experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with outpatient surgical procedures is preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and surgical technicians.
