Armed Security Officer
Location: USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) – Columbus, Ohio
Position Summary
The Armed Security Officer is responsible for protecting the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Application Support Center by providing a safe and secure environment for employees, contractors, and the public. Officers maintain a professional presence, enforce federal security procedures, control access to the facility, and respond to emergencies while ensuring the safety of all personnel and visitors. USCIS ASCs are federal facilities where applicants report for biometric services. (LegalClarity)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide armed security in accordance with DHS, USCIS, and contract requirements.
- Control access to the facility by verifying identification and appointment documentation.
- Screen all visitors using walk-through metal detectors, handheld wands, and X-ray equipment, when applicable.
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and other security equipment.
- Conduct interior and exterior security patrols.
- Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
- Respond promptly to disturbances, emergencies, suspicious activity, and security incidents.
- Maintain accurate daily activity logs, visitor logs, and incident reports.
- Assist with emergency evacuations and implement emergency response procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining professionalism and impartiality.
- Safeguard government property and sensitive information.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all USCIS, DHS, and company policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid Ohio driver's license.
- Current Ohio Armed Security Officer certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to legally possess and carry a firearm.
- Pass a criminal background investigation and drug screening.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required federal suitability and security clearances.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong observation and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military, law enforcement, corrections, or federal contract security experience.
- Previous experience working at government facilities.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Operate screening equipment and security systems.
- Maintain constant situational awareness.
- Work both indoors and outdoors as required.
- Respond quickly during emergency situations.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday.
- Day shift.
- Federal holidays observed unless otherwise directed by the contract.
- Overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Employment Conditions
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all pre-employment requirements, including federal suitability review, background investigation, required training, firearms qualification, and any additional contract-specific certifications. (Security Guards Only)
Pay: $24.22 - $26.00 per hour
