The Daycare Driver is responsible for safely transporting children to and from the daycare facility, as well as to scheduled activities, field trips, and other destinations as required. The driver must maintain a safe and secure environment for the children, ensuring that all transportation activities comply with state and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Transportation: Safely transport children to and from the daycare facility, schools, and other scheduled destinations.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure that the vehicle is in safe operating condition. Report any maintenance or repair needs to the management promptly.
- Child Safety: Ensure that all children are safely secured in the vehicle using appropriate child safety seats, seat belts, or harnesses as required by law.
- Supervision: Monitor and supervise children during transportation, maintaining discipline and ensuring that safety rules are followed.
- Route Management: Plan and adhere to the safest and most efficient routes for pick-up and drop-off. Adjust routes as necessary to account for traffic, weather conditions, and other factors.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with daycare staff, parents, and management regarding schedules, delays, and any issues that arise during transportation.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of mileage, maintenance, fuel usage, and any incidents or accidents.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all state and local transportation regulations, including licensing requirements, driving regulations, and child safety laws.
- Field Trips and Activities: Assist with transportation for field trips and special activities, ensuring that all children arrive and return safely.
- Emergency Procedures: Be prepared to handle emergencies such as vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or medical emergencies. Follow the daycare's emergency procedures and report incidents to management immediately.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Previous experience driving children is preferred, but not required.
- Certification: Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement may be required depending on state regulations and the size of the vehicle.
- Background Check: Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift children into and out of the vehicle, secure car seats, and perform routine vehicle inspections.
- First Aid/CPR Certification: Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and staff.
Working Conditions:
- Schedule: The position may require early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional weekends or evenings depending on the daycare’s needs.
- Environment: Driving in various weather conditions, handling child safety equipment, and maintaining a calm and patient demeanor with children.
