Position Overview
Premier Charter High School, a performing alternative charter high school dedicated to helping students overcome barriers and achieve graduation, is seeking a passionate, student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.
Our school serves students who benefit from personalized instruction, flexible learning pathways, and meaningful relationships with caring educators. The ideal candidate is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality instruction, individualized support, and access to the general education curriculum while promoting academic achievement, independence, and successful post-secondary outcomes.
We are actively interviewing highly qualified Arizona-certified Special Education teachers who are dedicated to making a lasting impact in the lives of high school students.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Student Support
- Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with Arizona Academic Standards and each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Provide specially designed instruction in accordance with federal and state special education regulations.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student success and independence.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and evidence-based practices to maximize student learning.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations, modifications, and supports are consistently implemented.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies based on data and ongoing assessment.
Special Education Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and implement compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain accurate documentation toward IEP goals.
- Participate in eligibility meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, manifestation determination meetings, and other special education meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, Arizona Department of Education requirements, and school policies.
- Maintain confidential student records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with administrators, school counselors, related service providers, parents, and community agencies to support student success.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior, attendance, and educational planning.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
- Serve as an advocate for students while building positive relationships with families and stakeholders.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
- Implement proactive classroom management and positive behavior intervention strategies.
- Promote student accountability, self-advocacy, and appropriate social skills.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, progress reports, and IEP documentation.
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to instructional practices, special education law, and alternative education.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Charter Representative.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate.
- Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Arizona special education regulations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to serving students from diverse cultural, academic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Arizona secondary certification or Highly Qualified status in one or more content areas.
- Experience teaching high school students in an alternative education, credit recovery, or charter school setting.
- Experience writing and implementing compliant IEPs.
- Knowledge of transition planning for secondary students.
- Experience with behavior intervention planning.
- Familiarity with Edgenuity or other online learning platforms.
- Experience using instructional technology including Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, SMART Boards, and student information systems.
- Ability to analyze student assessment data to guide instructional decision-making.
