Sheet Metal Mechanic - Construction
The primary responsibility of the Sheet Metal Mechanic is to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers. The Mechanic reports to the Foreman or Assistant Superintendent.

A Day in the Life:
- Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices
- Follow specific directions from project supervision
- Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to SMACNA
- Locate and mark dimensions per plans, specifications and shop drawings
- Fabricate duct onsite to include miter and alterations to shop fabricated duct
- Use hand tools and portable power tools in the installation of joints of duct such as slide and drive, TDF, snap lock, and other assemblies as required
- Lay out openings and coordinates with other trades
- Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance with job requirements and industry standards
- Erect and install equipment such as air handling units, VAV boxes, fan power boxes, and others as required
- Teach, coach and guide apprentices and helpers to ensure that they work safely and productively
- Material handling as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
You Should Have:
Possess a minimum of four years of industry experience
Possess knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), SMACNA and general HVAC systems
Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
Ability to install work from drawings, submittals and specifications
Ability to direct crews to install work safely with quality and efficiency
Ability to make decisions with information on hand
Ability to read and understand project related documents in the English language
Demonstrate knowledge of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions)
Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades
Ability to work easily and skillfully with hands
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines
