Job Summary
The Facilities & Operations Technician is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, cleaning, safety, and physical upkeep of all Hope Unlimited facilities. This is a hands-on, multi-site role. The shelter facility is the primary focus due to its 24-hour residential operation and higher rate of daily maintenance needs, but all Hope Unlimited locations are within the scope of this position.
This role requires someone who can work independently, prioritize effectively across multiple sites, handle a wide range of maintenance tasks, and understand that they are working in spaces where vulnerable people live and receive services. Professionalism, discretion, and reliability are non-negotiable.
Qualification
- Demonstrated experience in general building maintenance, facilities management, or a skilled trade (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or equivalent)
- Ability to perform a wide range of minor repairs independently without requiring a licensed contractor for routine tasks
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to prioritize across multiple sites without close supervision
- Valid Kansas driver’s license and reliable personal transportation for travel between sites
- Ability to pass a required background check — mandatory given the nature of facilities served
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks
- Professional demeanor and ability to work respectfully in a trauma-informed environment
Preferred:
- Experience working in nonprofit, social services, residential, or human services facility environments
- Familiarity with Kansas building codes, fire safety regulations, and ADA accessibility requirements
- Experience coordinating with outside vendors and managing repair timelines
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments such as ohmmeters.
