Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Hospice Medical Director to provide medical oversight and clinical guidance for our hospice agency. This role is responsible for supporting the interdisciplinary team, reviewing patient eligibility, certifying terminal illness, assisting with care planning, and ensuring patients receive appropriate comfort-focused care. The ideal candidate is a licensed physician with hospice, palliative care, geriatric, internal medicine, or family medicine experience who understands the importance of dignity, comfort, and compassionate end-of-life care.
Duties
Provide medical direction and oversight for hospice patients and the clinical team.
Review patient eligibility for hospice care and assist with certification and recertification of terminal illness.
Work closely with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Participate in IDG/IDT meetings to review patient status, care plans, symptoms, and ongoing hospice needs.
Assist with developing and updating patient plans of care.
Provide guidance on pain management, symptom control, medication needs, and comfort-focused treatment.
Review clinical documentation as needed to support hospice eligibility and compliance.
Communicate with attending physicians and other healthcare providers when needed.
Support quality assurance, compliance, and survey readiness.
Be available for clinical consultation and physician orders as needed.
Ensure care is provided in accordance with hospice standards, Medicare requirements, and agency policies.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion when working with patients, families, and staff.
Experience
Current California physician license required.
MD or DO degree required.
Hospice or palliative care experience preferred.
Experience with geriatric, internal medicine, family medicine, oncology, or end-of-life care is preferred.
Knowledge of hospice eligibility, terminal prognosis, certifications, recertifications, and plan of care requirements.
Strong communication and clinical leadership skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary hospice team.
Comfortable reviewing documentation and supporting compliance requirements.

Pay: From $181,000.00 per year
