We are a small memory care home looking for a creative, compassionate, and energetic Activities Director to lead our elder engagement program.
This is a hands-on position. We’re looking for someone who doesn't just create an activities calendar—you’ll be right there with our elders, leading programs, encouraging participation, learning what makes each person smile, and finding creative ways to help elders stay connected and engaged.
What You’ll Do
Create Meaningful Days
- Plan, organize, and lead a varied calendar of daily activities
- Get to know our elders—their histories, interests, abilities, preferences, and personalities
- Adapt activities so elders with different cognitive and physical abilities can participate successfully
- Create opportunities for exercise, music, art, games, cooking, sensory experiences, reminiscing, cultural programs, celebrations, and more
- Develop one-on-one and small-group engagement opportunities for elders who may not enjoy larger activities
- Encourage participation in a positive and respectful way
- Help elders socialize, connect, laugh, and enjoy meaningful moments throughout the day
Lead the Activities Program
- Develop and maintain the monthly activities calendar
- Communicate upcoming programs and events with elders, families, and team members
- Coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, outings, entertainers, and community partners
- Monitor resident participation and satisfaction and adjust programming when something isn't working
Connect With Families & Our Team
- Participate in elder care and family meetings as needed and provide insight into resident engagement
- Capture photos and special moments from activities and celebrations for appropriate sharing and marketing
- Help create an environment where elders and families feel connected to our home
Who We’re Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are:
- Naturally creative, energetic, and enthusiastic
- Compassionate and patient with older adults
- Comfortable working with individuals living with memory loss
- Someone who enjoys being active and involved rather than sitting behind a desk
- Organized enough to manage calendars, events, supplies, and multiple priorities
- Comfortable leading a group but equally happy spending one-on-one time with a resident
- Flexible when the day's plan needs to change
- A strong communicator who can build relationships with elders, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners
- Able to bring your own ideas while also listening to what elders enjoy
Qualifications
- Previous experience in activities, recreation, senior living, healthcare, assisted living, or a similar role strongly preferred
- Knowledge of senior activities and physical, cognitive, and social engagement techniques preferred
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Basic computer and scheduling skills
- Ability to successfully complete required background and employment screenings
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends for special events or community needs
